John R. Cerrato, 76, of Meriden, loving husband of Joan (Przybysz) Cerrato, passed away unexpectedly July 11, 2021, at New Britain Hospital.
He was born in New Haven on August 28, 1944, a son of the late Mildred Slie and Frank Cerrato.
During his early years, he loved going to Vermont with his father and uncle, Raymond, hunting, whether they caught anything or not they always had a good story to tell. Jack worked at New Departure for 32 years.
Jack was a life member and a two-time Past Exalted Ruler of Meriden Lodge of Elks #35 in 1982 and 1986. He was a Past Governor of the Wallingford Moose, a life member of the Wallingford VFW Post #591 Auxiliary and the North Italian Home Club. A member of Wallingford Eagles Aerie #1820, the PBA, and the Meriden Motorcycle Club. He didn’t start skiing until he was 40 and became President for 4 yrs. of the Meriden Ski Club and a ski patroller at Mt. Southington for 10 yrs.
He loved playing golf and hit a Hole in One at the MB National-Southcreek Course Hole #13 in 2006. He loved being with and helping people in any way he could. He loved to dance as soon as the music started, he would be on the dance floor and when he couldn’t dance anymore, he sang karaoke.
He loved taking care of his yard with his dog, Jackson, and planting a different array of colorful flowers each year. What brought him the most joy in his life was seeing and being with his grandchildren. They were the light in his life.
In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by his sons, John Cerrato of Middletown and Jason Cerrato and his wife, Stephanie, of Wallingford; his daughter, Debra Hazen and her husband, Charles, of Berlin; his sister, Grace Suzio and her husband, Paul, of Wallingford; his brother, Charles Cerrato and his wife, Claire, of North Carolina; his grandchildren, James Stanley Cerrato and Jack Stephen Cerrato; and several nieces and nephews.
